Program Overview
The School of Language and Culture, Tianjin University of Technology, specializes in Chinese language teaching for international students, admitting learners worldwide.
This program enhances students’ Chinese communication skills, deepens their understanding of China’s history, culture and current situation, and cultivates high-qualified applied talents proficient in Chinese for global needs.
Courses are divided into Elementary (including zero-based), Intermediate and Advanced levels, with small-class teaching. Intensive training covers listening, speaking, reading and writing, supplemented by optional courses like Tai Chi, Calligraphy (Brush), Seal Cutting, Paper cutting, Weaving and Chinese Music, aiming to comprehensively improve students’ Chinese competence for study, work and daily life.

Class time: Monday to Friday
Class Hour
Different levels have tailored schedules. Normally class hours are Monday to Friday, 18-22 academic hours per week.

Compulsory Courses
Comprehensive Chinese (Elementary/Intermediate/Advanced): Covers pronunciation, character recognition/writing, vocabulary, grammar and application, laying a solid foundation for Chinese proficiency and writing.
Spoken Chinese: Improves oral communication skills through targeted teaching and practice. Students learn Chinese communication etiquette, express views fluently, develop Chinese thinking and adapt to different communication scenarios.
Chinese Listening: Enhances listening comprehension, enabling students to grasp main ideas, identify details, guess meanings and follow fast-paced conversations/radio/TV programs. Develops the ability to absorb new words and expressions.
Optional Courses
Chinese Music Appreciation, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Tai Chi, Seal Cutting, Paper Cutting, Chinese Character Reading & Writing, Intermediate Chinese Reading, Intermediate Chinese Writing, Advanced Chinese Reading, Advanced Chinese Writing, Introduction to Chinese Culture, Mandarin Pronunciation & Recitation, Chinese History, Chinese-Foreign Cultural Exchange, Chinese Human Geography, Chinese Folk Culture, Chinese Vocabulary & Culture, English-Chinese/Japanese-Chinese Translation.
(optional courses are offered partially each semester based on enrollment.)
