Eligibility Criteria

Applicant Requirements

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, in good health, and demonstrate both academic excellence and good conduct.

Applicants must be friendly towards China, have no criminal record, and comply with Chinese laws, regulations, and university rules and regulations; should aspire to engage in Chinese language education, teaching, or related work; applicants who have previously received a scholarship of the same type will not be considered.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must be between 16 and 35 years of age (as of September 1, 2024). Currently employed Chinese language teachers may be up to 45 years old.


Language Requirements

  One-Academic-Year Scholars

For Chinese language studies: applicants must have an HSK Level 3 score of at least 210; priority will be given to applicants who can provide an HSKK score report.

  One-Semester Scholars

For programs in International Chinese Language Education, Chinese Language and Literature, etc.: applicants must have an HSK Level 3 score of at least 180 and possess an HSKK score report.

Winners of the "International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate" in various Chinese Bridge competitions may complete the admission procedures at the host institution using their scholarship certificate. For inquiries, please contact: chinesebridge@chinese.cn.


Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship duration for one-academic-year scholars is 11 months; for one-semester scholars, it is 5 months. The scholarship includes:

1. Tuition waiver for one academic year/semester. This includes the fee for one HSK/HSKK exam but does not cover textbook costs.

2. Free accommodation in an on-campus double-occupancy economy room (with shared bathroom). Scholars who apply and receive approval from the host institution to live off-campus will receive a monthly accommodation subsidy of RMB 700 per person.

3. Living allowance: RMB 2,500 per month.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance: The host institution will purchase this in accordance with the relevant regulations of China's Ministry of Education, at a standard rate of RMB 800 per person per year.


Application Deadlines

For one-academic-year scholars (commencing in September): May 15

For one-semester scholars (commencing in September): May 15

For one-semester scholars (commencing in March): October 31


Step 1: Online Application

1. Apply online via the International Student Office website.

Log in to Tianjin University of Technology’s International Student Application System (https://tjut.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx) and complete the online form.

2. Apply via the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Website

Log in to the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn and complete your registration.


Step 2: Contact a "Recommending Institution" for Online Recommendation

Regarding Recommending Institutions:

1. Eligible recommending institutions primarily include the following:

1) Confucius Institutes/independently established Confucius Classrooms that have been operational for at least six months;

2) HSK test centers authorized to provide scholarship recommendations;

3) Overseas organizers of the "Chinese Bridge" competition: Educational and Cultural Offices (Sections) of Chinese embassies/consulates, Confucius Institutes, and related educational institutions. For inquiries, please contact chinesebridge@chinese.cn.

2. After selecting a recommending institution and submitting your online application, please contact the institution to complete the online recommendation process.


Step 3: Track Your Application Status Online

Applicants may check their application progress and status through either the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website or the Tianjin University of Technology International Student Application System.

Please make sure your email address is correct and check your inbox regularly to avoid missing important notifications (such as interview invitations, etc.).


Step 4: Admission and Enrollment

Admission results can be checked through the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website, the Tianjin University of Technology International Student Application System, or the announcement section of the Tianjin University of Technology International Students Office website. Admitted students must report to the university and complete registration strictly according to the date specified in the Admission Notice. At registration, original documents such as the diploma and degree certificate will be verified. Applicants who fail to obtain the required certificates will have their admission canceled.


Application Documents

1. Scanned copy of the passport photo page.

*Applicants under 18 years of age must provide a Guardian Guarantee Form. (Guarantee Form.pdf)

2. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for 2 years).

*Winners of the "Chinese Bridge" semi-finals coming to China may submit their "Chinese Bridge" award certificate and "Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate".

*Incumbent Chinese language teachers applying for any scholarship category may submit an in-service proof and recommendation letter issued by their employing institution. Priority will be given under equal conditions.

3. Recommendation letter issued by the head of the recommending institution.

4. Highest academic diploma (or pre-graduation certificate) and official academic transcripts.

Pre-graduation certificates, current enrollment proofs, or transcripts not in Chinese or English must be accompanied by corresponding notarized translations.

5. Personal statement from the applicant (including Chinese learning background, study plan, and objectives in China). It must be written in Chinese or English, printed, and include the applicant's signature.

6. Copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. This form is uniformly printed by Chinese health and quarantine authorities and must be completed in English. The form will be considered invalid if any section is missing, if it lacks a personal photo, if the photo is not stamped with a seam seal, or if it is not signed and stamped by the physician and hospital.

7. Certificate of no criminal record.


Important Notes:

1. If any application materials are found to be falsified or not personally completed and submitted by the applicant, the application eligibility will be revoked immediately.

2. Scholarship recipients who are unable to register on time must inform the university in writing at least 15 days before the registration date, stating the reason. Those who fail to report without a valid reason will have their scholarship qualification canceled.

3. Students who fail the entrance medical examination, withdraw, or suspend their studies will have their scholarship eligibility revoked.
