Recently, over 20 international students and teachers from 11 countries and 5 schools embarked on a journey to Beijing for the "Perceiving China" activity, hosted by the China Scholarship Council and organized by Tianjin University of Technology (TUT). They immersed themselves in China's rich cultural heritage and witnessed the remarkable achievements of China's modernization.

The first stop was the Temple of Heaven. Here, the international students explored the cultural significance of the site's "round sky and square earth" design, discovered fascinating acoustic wonders in its architecture, and learned to estimate the age of ancient trees. Led by a tour guide, they toured key structures like the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Circular Mound Altar, and the Imperial Vault of Heaven, gaining insights into the park's history and China's rich cultural traditions.
The second stop was a national intangible cultural heritage site: the Protection Demonstration Base for Cloisonné Enamel Craftsmanship. Here, the students got an up-close look at the intricate process of cloisonné craftsmanship, including drawing, filigree, and enameling. They delved into the rich history of the art form and marveled at stunning masterpieces, feeling the unique charm of cloisonné artisans. Many said the visit deepened their understanding of China's intangible cultural heritage.
The Beijing trip enabled the international students from TUT to intimately experience the unique charm of China's ancient architecture and intangible cultural heritage. Going forward, the university will continue to organize "Perceiving China" social practices. These will inspire the students to explore China on foot, document their journeys through lenses, and deepen their understanding and integration into Chinese culture, ultimately becoming cultural ambassadors.
