Visa Guide

X1 Visa:

International students whose study period is shorter than 1 month or longer than 6 months usually receive an X1 visa.

The X1 visa is valid for 30 days after entry and allows only one entry. If your study period exceeds 6 months, you must, with the university’s assistance, apply for a residence permit for study within 30 days of entering China.

The materials required for the first application for a residence permit are as follows:

1. JW202 Form 2. Original Admission Notice, and 3. Copy of the Temporary Residence Registration Form* If you live on campus, please request the Temporary Residence Registration Form from the hotel reception. If you live off campus, you must register at the local police station within 24 hours after entry to obtain this document. If you change your address, you must re-register at the police station near your new residence within 24 hours of the change. 4. Physical Examination Report issued by the Tianjin International Travel Health Care Center (Address: No. 2-1126, Xingang Second Road, Binhai New Area, opposite Jinshijie Hotel. X2 Visa:

International students whose study period is longer than 1 month but shorter than 6 months usually receive an X2 visa.

Residence Permit:

A Residence Permit for Study is generally issued to international students whose study period exceeds 6 months. Holders of a valid residence permit may enter and exit China multiple times before the permit expires. For self-funded students, the validity period of the residence permit corresponds to the tuition fees paid; however, all residence permits for enrolled students may be extended for up to one year at a time. All students must renew their residence permit before its expiration to avoid illegal residence. The renewal process usually takes about 2 weeks.
